ARTIST BIO

CHRISTINA BLOMBERG

Safflower Rabbit Art

I started my art career at age 5, tracing DVD boxes, picture books, and elaborately decorated art books my dad had lying around. From there, it grew into many crayon drawn original characters, (most notably a series of hearts with eyes, wings, and french berets, for some reason) lining the hallway walls of my childhood home.

I was homeschooled with rather loose supervision from two working parents, which allowed me to find ample time to practice drawing inbetween my other cirriculum. Right up to my 17th year, my art education consisted of self taught/directed cartoon and realism skills and the countless drawings of my favorite pop culture characters.

At age 18, I attended Everett Community college, pursuing an Associates in Fine Arts. I worked in many different mediums including charcoal, oil painting and watercolor. After two years of developing my professional skills and portfolio, she graduated with Honors in 2023.

Growing up, I wasn’t sure how wanted to use my passion in terms of the big picture. I knew she didn’t want it to fall by the wayside as I focused on my more “practical” day job, as I'd seen other artist's stories become. Despite the common comment “Well, art is more of a hobby. You should think about a real job”, I knew art couldn’t just be something I just did in the evening…If I had time. But I could never find an answer to the question, in a world where few artists really make decent money, how do I succeed?

As a teen, I spent much of my time nannying for different families, which is what ultimately led to me to discovering just how I wanted to express my creativity. Afer spending hours upon hours reading book after book to young children, each one with illustrations just as unique and imaginative as the last, it reminded me of the many books of my childhood, the ones I used to trace, ultimately teaching me how to draw.

I hope to contribute my works to the vast library of literature for young children. My greatest desire is for my work to one day be the inspiration behind another young artist’s journey.

Through my private works, I also hope to bring attention to topics important to me, including the joy of expressiong your creativity through art and dance, technology’s ever growing role in the art world, geek culture in everyday life, and the importance of never losing touch with your younger self.
